Week 4: How to use Kami Chrome Extension
If you are teaching remote, or are trying to use less paper, then the Kami Chrome Extension is the app for you! This gem lets your students download a PDF from your LMS and write and edit on the computer. Students can draw, highlight, type into blank lines, draw shapes, fill in color, and even sign documents. This last feature came in clutch this year for our Visual Arts Program with our Virtual students. A lot of contests let students and parents sign forms electronically this year. However, most students do not have PDF converters. Kami gave us the capabilities to have both parents and students sign and return forms to us electronically.
Kami works for word documents, powerpoints, and PDF's. You can upload a worksheet to your LMS and students can answer it using the Kami Extension. Then export the file and upload the assignment back to LMS. No paper required! I am in love with how much less paper I am using this year. Even though I am Hybrid, I still have my in-person students use Kami for worksheets now. No more papers to lug around and grade. Everything is stored in your LMS once they turn it back in.
Students can also turn in their completed PDF into Google Drive or One Drive. This gives the capabilities of Peer Review and Editing. You can use the commenting feature in Kami to write comments directly onto another PDF like a Google Doc. It also saves you and your students from saving documents straight to your computer.
If you have been struggling to find a way for our students to do worksheets virtually, Kami is the way to go!

Oh my goodness, where has this extension been all my life! I have been converting all my PDF's into screenshots for my students and it has been a mess. Thank you so much for sharing! I can't wait to utilize this next week. Do students also have to add the extension to their Google Chrome or is it just the teacher? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Jessica,
DeleteThe students also need to add the extension. I also did my Tech Tool video over this tool, so if you want a visual of how to, check out my video! It is a total time saver and the students can peer review if they save in a Shared Google Drive.
Tara, thank you for sharing! I feel like this tool will not only be great for my classroom but for my personal use as well! Similar to Jessica I have been using screenshots. I am excited to try this out so my students and I can easily edit and share documents with each other :) Is it pretty user friendly, could young elementary students navigate the tools?

Hi Karissa,
DeleteI know the Elementary Schools are using the tool. However, I would say saving would be something you really have to practice with then. The functionality of the extension is user friendly for all ages though!
I will also check out your tech tool video :)
ReplyDeleteAgree that this is a must have extension! Thanks for sharing.
